Text: John 6:5-14
Title: In Good Hands with Jesus
Introduction: There are all kinds of insurance agencies. There is State
Farm. There is Liberty Mutal. There is Progressive
Car Insurance. Then there is All State Insurance. All State Insurance
has a slogan, “You’re in good hands with All State.”
They feel like they have the best of insurance. They feel they are
better than State Farm, Liberty Mutual, and Progressive Car
Insurance. But the purpose of the sermon today is to let somebody know
that you are in good hands with Jesus. Whatever load
you’re carrying place it in Jesus’ hands. In today’s sermon we will we
review where the title of “Operation Feed Five Thousand-
Plus came from.
I. The Need (5-6)
• The purpose of ministry is to meet needs.
• (5) We must open our eyes to see ministry. Many people are blind (some
out of ignorance-not knowing and others out of
ignorance-ignoring)
• Luke’s gospel mentions how the 12 wanted to send them away.
• (6) We must have a made up mind about ministry.
II. The Resources (7-9)
• (7) Let’s not think small…
• (8-9) Don’t overlook the small things…
• (8-9) Use what you have…5 barley loaves/2 fish (this was a poor man’s
lunch)
• “Man’s extremity is God’s opportunity”
• “Is there anything too hard for God?”
III. The Miracle (10-14)
• Miracles involve Divine intervention
• (10) Order and Position
• Make the men sit down (to gain order)
• Sit down (get in position to be blessed)
• (11) You must include Christ
• JESUS put loaves and fish in his hands – if you want to really
experience miracles and blessings put it all in his hands.
• JESUS gave thanks – be grateful for whatever God provides you with.
• JESUS involved the disciples in ministry (Christ centered and people
involved)
Conclusion
• (12-14) The miracles of being full and having leftovers. Jesus can
cause overflow in our lives.
• The great lesson of the miracle is evident. Christ is the Bread of
Life to a perishing world, and as the Living Bread,
must be passed on to others by the eaters themselves.
• If you put a basketball in my hands-I won’t be able to do much with
it…Michael Jordan hands-you will get championship
rings; tennis ball: I will hit outside the fence, Venus Williams’
hand-Wimbledon Crown; golf ball: I will just hit it, or not,
but in Tiger Woods’ hands-PGA tour Jacket; hot curlers in my
hands-somebody with a question mark in their mind-Madame CJ Walker-
million dollar empire; nails in my hand-someone who cannot build
anything; but in Jesus’ hand…
