Theme: Lord Send a Revival
Text: Judges 16:19-20, 28
Title: The Samson Shake

Introduction: The twist, the bump, the bamba, the boogie woogie, the cha cha, the Charleston, the tango, the cotton-eyed joe, the
two step, the jitterbug, the fox trot, the turkey trot, the waltz, the rumba, the salsa, the bump, the break dance, the pee-wee
herman, the electric slide, the c-walk, the harlem shake. These are all names of dances in generations past and present. One
that was popular at the school dances I had to attend at my school was & is the Harlem Shake. There was a man in the word of God
that did a shake before there was a Harlem Shake, or for that matter, even a Harlem. However, his shake was not a dance, his
shake was a shake into reality. The purpose of the sermon today is look at how the judge of God experienced the judgment of God
on him as a result of his disobedience. The purpose of the sermon is to also show how God can restore a person back to where he
or she once was. The title, Judges, refers to the leaders Israel had from the time of the elders who outlived Joshua until the
time of the monarchy. The principal purpose of a judge is best expressed in 2:13-16 (read it).

I. His Calling (13:7b, 24-25; 16:16-17)
• To have a call is the purpose and will of God for your life.
• (13:7b;24-25) his parents knew God had a call on his life…he was a miracle baby.
• (16:16-17) Samson knew God had a call on his life.
• God gave him strength:
a. He killed a lion with his bare hands (14:5b-6)
b. He single-handedly killed 30 men (14:19)
c. He killed 1000 Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey (15:15)
• We must know that God has a purpose for our lives. In “The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren he says, “You are not an
accident.” Your birth was no mistake, nor mishap. Even you were unplanned by your parents, your were not unplanned by
God. “Your are who you are for a reason.”
• God is calling each of us to a restored relationship, commitment, sacrifice and holiness.

II. His Corruption (lack of integrity) (16:16-19)
• To understand his corruption is to have a complete understanding of the nature of his calling.
• Numbers 6:1-21, a Nazarite was a member of a Hebrew religious class, specially dedicated to God. The Nazarite concept is
a that of a vow to separate himself to the Lord. He was separated to abstinence & dedication first.
• A Nazarite was to restraint from the dead due to defilement; restrain from wine; and restraint from shaving.
• (16:16-17) Samson shared too much with the enemy.
• (19) He relaxed and reclined in the wrong place.
• (20a) He did the Samson shake and nothing was there.

III. His Conclusion (16:20b)
• (20b) He did not know that the Lord was not with him. What a sad state to be in!
• (21) Blind, bound (23-25) & belittled.
• Conclusion of the sermon ~~ it’s not over yet (25b-31)
a. Led by a lad between 2 pillars (26-27)
b. Led in his prayer (28)
c. He “brought the house down” (30) – took lives.
• There was another:
a. Between 2 thieves
b. Led in prayer—“Father forgive them…”
c. Brought the house down…gave life.
