                                                                                    Text: 1 John 1:9
Title: “I’ve Fallen, and I CAN Get Up”

Introduction: A slogan many of us may have heard the commercial that says “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.” We’re sending help
immediately Mrs. Fletcher.” Mrs. Fletcher used a remote control to contact “Life Call,” a 24 hour emergency medical response
system that uses a remote control. This is not true when it comes to sin. One of the hardest things for some of us to do is
confront and deal with sin. The purpose of this sermon is to let each of us know that when we fall, we can get up. In an effort
to have revival in our personal lives and as a church, one must come to grips with sin and how to deal with it.

I. Exclusive (if we…)
• Exclusive means not shared with others
• If – means “in case”
• Confess – (homo-lo-ge-ho) – to say the same thing as another, i.e. agree with God
• Sin (ham-ar-tee-ah) – to miss the mark, to miss or wander from the path of uprightness, to do or go wrong, to err

II. Conclusive (…he is faithful & just…)
• Conclusive means absolute; expressing finality, with no implication of possible change.
• He (Jesus)
• Is – statement of fact; it will occur
• Faithful – trusting; ability to be counted on; that can be relied on
• Just – faultless; fair; observing divine law; “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he
should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19)
• Forgive – to send away; let go; let alone

III. Inclusive (…cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness…)
• Inclusive means everything
• Cleanse – purify; make clean; free from defilement; free from guilt of sin; pronounce clean in a Levitical sense
• All unrighteousness – act of not acting right, or doing right

Conclusion: How can he cleanse me of my sins? Reference 1 John 1:7, “…the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all
sin.” The song says, “What can wash away my sins, nothing but the blood of Jesus, what can make me whole again, nothing but the
blood of Jesus.”

In A Forgiving God in an Unforgiving World, Ron Lee Davis retells the true story of a priest in the Philippines, a much- loved
man of God who carried the burden of a secret sin he had committed many years before. He had repented but still had no peace, no
sense of God's forgiveness. In his parish was a woman who deeply loved God and who claimed to have visions in which she spoke
with Christ and he with her. The priest, however, was skeptical. To test her he said, "The next time you speak with Christ, I
want you to ask him what sin your priest committed while he was in seminary." The woman agreed. A few days later the priest
asked., "Well, did Christ visit you in your dreams?"
"Yes, he did," she replied.
"And did you ask him what sin I committed in seminary?"
"Yes."
"Well, what did he say?"
"He said, 'I don't remember'"
What God forgives, He forgets.

"The Lord bless thee and keep thee; the Lord make his face shine upon thee and be gracious unto thee. The Lord lift his countenance upon thee and give thee peace." (Number 6:24)  Text: Isaiah 6:1-8
