2 Chronicles 5:11-14

When Church Got Good

Introduction:  The purpose of this sermon is to remind us of what happens when church gets good!  I mean really gets good.  David had a desire to build a temple for the Lord.  But, God said not you, not yet and not now.  And God said your son Solomon will build me a house.  God wrote Solomon a blank check and signed it.  Whatever you want—name it, claim it—it’s yours.

I.                  The Presence of God (compare v.7)

bulletThe Ark of the Covenant - The purpose for the Ark of the Covenant was to symbolize Yahweh Elohim’s visible throne on earth. Yahweh stated that he would dwell in a cloud between the wings of the cherubim above the Mercy Seat (Lev. 16:2). This is also where He would commune with Moses and the high priest who heard His voice from between the wings of the cherubim (Num. 7:89; Ex. 25:22).

II.               The Unity of the Musicians/Singers (12-13a)

bulletThey were one.
bulletTheir ‘one-ness’ was evident in their sound.

III.           The Praise of the People (13b)

bulletTo shine
bulletTo boast
bulletTo act like a mad man
bulletThe object of their praise was evident in their praise: God was the object of their praise -- “For He is good; for His mercy endureth forever.”

Conclusion:

·         When Church Got Good!  (v.14) We have something to praise God for!  (litany of things to thank God for)

·         Praise on this side is just a rehearsal.  Don’t think praise started with us…praise has been in progress from before the beginning of time (Ps. 19:1, “The heavens declare the glory of God”)…the angels have cried holy, holy, holy before all creation…(Isaiah 6:1-3) and when we get to heaven we will join praise already in progress…holy, holy, holy!!!
